It's Time for the Impossible to Become Possible
As we are moving into another year our faith is being stirred once again to ask God for the impossible. Our Lord and King, Jesus, demonstrated to His disciples that supernatural power is available to those who seek God. He declared that certain major victories only come through sustained prayer and fasting.
Every day in 2017 will be covered in prayer for Nashville by various churches, ministries and organizations. Our desire is to hear what is on God's heart in order to pray effectively for our city. A great way to start is to invite you to participate with us to pray and fast for 21 days in January 2017. We will begin on January 8th and go through the 28th.
Here are a few practical tips that I normally use to help me get started:
Establish your purpose: I normally break down my prayer time during this 21 days into two areas: one for myself and the second for others. These are some questions I normally find myself and my friends asking each year: Are you desiring to be closer to God? Do you have financial pressures? Do you want more direction for your life? Are you having issues with relationships? Maybe you need healing? Have your dreams died? Any bondages, vices or attitudes holding you back? Fasting and prayer can bring clarity and answers to these areas.
Decide when and how you will fast: Most people use the Daniel fast — a 21 consecutive-day type fast. However, if you choose you can break this up to do less during the 21 days or extend it and go up to 40 days. The Bible shows us different types of fasting. The one you choose is between you and God. He will honor your best sacrifice and He will give you the grace to do it. Here are a few different ways:
Don’t lose heart if you find the battle intense: We are all in a spiritual war. The devil will resist and tempt you. Don’t be discouraged. Reach out to someone else who is praying.
Come on, let’s obtain the promises of God!
